The term **'yield'** generally means the amount of output, return, or result produced from a process, investment, or effort. In finance, it refers to the earnings generated on an investment over a period, expressed as a percentage. In agriculture or production contexts, it means the quantity of product obtained.
A displayed annual yield is an output, not an explanation. Before evaluating a DeFi opportunity, identify who pays the return, what risk they receive in exchange and whether the rate depends on temporary incentives.
