Blockstream Explorer Rebuild Adds Live Mempool and Liquid Data

Explorer shifts from lookup tool to network view​

Blockstream says it has rebuilt Blockstream Explorer to show more of what is happening across Bitcoin, Liquid and their testnets. The update moves the explorer beyond a simple confirmation check by adding live fee context, transaction interpretation, mining data and a fuller Liquid network dashboard. Because the details come from Blockstream's own announcement, the feature claims should be read as the company's description rather than independent performance testing.

Live network cards put fees and congestion first​

Blockstream says the redesigned dashboard leads with four quick-read indicators: time since the last block, the recommended fee, mempool congestion and a Bitcoin price chart. That layout is meant to put the most common confirmation and fee questions on the first screen rather than hiding them behind separate pages.

The congestion indicator is shown as a gauge, while fee rates carry dollar values alongside sat/vB estimates for low, average and high bands. Blockstream also says total fees collected in a block are displayed in both BTC and dollars, with the same four-card structure used across each supported network. The practical effect is a more consistent read for users moving between Bitcoin, Liquid and test environments.


Next-block view turns the mempool into a fee map​

The most visible change is a live next-block display that shows pending transactions as tiles. According to Blockstream, each tile is sized by virtual size and colored by fee band, with low, medium and high thresholds published in the interface.

The company says hovering over a tile reveals the transaction ID, fee in sats, fee rate and virtual size. Around the visualization, the page shows the number of selected transactions, fees collected so far, the SegWit and Legacy split, block weight and size against their limits, and the number of transactions still pending in the mempool. For someone choosing a fee, that turns a static estimate into a view of where a transaction may sit in the current block-building queue.


Transaction pages add privacy and confirmation analysis​

Blockstream says transaction pages now explain more of what a transaction means, not just what it contains. The header includes size, virtual size, weight units, version, lock time and confirmation count, while unconfirmed transactions show an estimated confirmation time and the number of blocks ahead.

The rebuilt pages also add SegWit fee-savings information and privacy analysis. Blockstream says the explorer can flag findings such as address reuse and likely self-transfers, making potential privacy leaks visible on the transaction page. The underlying technical data remains available, including witness data, nSequence, scripts in assembly and hex, and links from spent outputs to the transactions that spent them. That mix is aimed at both ordinary transaction checks and deeper debugging.


Bitcoin mining data and search are reorganized​

For Bitcoin, the dashboard now includes mining and difficulty information at the foot of the page. Blockstream says it shows hashrate, current difficulty and the next adjustment, including the expected move, the previous adjustment and the date the next one lands.

The announcement highlights average block time as the key signal because block times above ten minutes point toward a downward adjustment at the next retarget. Blockstream notes that this section is Bitcoin-only because Liquid blocks are produced by the federation on a fixed schedule, so there is no mining difficulty to track. Search has also been unified: a block height, hash, transaction, address or asset can be entered in one box and routed to the relevant page. Mined block pages then show fullness against the weight limit, size, transaction count, a block visual, and detailed fields such as version, nonce, merkle root and block hash.


Liquid dashboard focuses on reserves and confidentiality​

Blockstream says the Liquid side of the explorer now gives asset users and issuers a single dashboard for network status. The page includes high-value assets sized by circulating supply against a price feed, LBTC in circulation, transactions per month and the latest transactions as they land.

Proof of reserves is placed on the same page. According to Blockstream, the federation's BTC holdings are compared with LBTC in circulation as a percentage, timestamped to the last change, with recent peg-ins and peg-outs listed underneath. The announcement also restates how Liquid Confidential Transactions work: transaction values appear confidential publicly because amounts and asset types are blinded to everyone except the sender and receiver, while the network still verifies that the sums balance. Either party can unblind a transaction to prove the amount to a third party, which may matter for issuers with audit or reporting obligations.


API and testnets extend the rebuild to developers​

The rebuilt explorer is not only a web interface. Blockstream says every page is a view on the Blockstream Explorer API, with blocks, transactions, addresses, fee estimates, mempool state and Liquid asset data available through REST and Electrum RPC across Bitcoin, Liquid and both testnets.

Bitcoin Testnet and Liquid Testnet receive the same dashboards, analysis and API as mainnet, according to the announcement. Blockstream says both carry a red banner so test funds are not mistaken for real ones. For wallet builders, exchange integrations and asset issuers, the testnet parity means confirmation behavior, fee estimates and output visibility can be checked before pointing software at mainnet data.


Conclusion​

The update positions Blockstream Explorer as a broader network-observation tool rather than only a transaction-status page. Its main changes are practical: clearer fee context, a live view of the next block, transaction-level interpretation, mining data for Bitcoin and a more complete Liquid dashboard.

The limits are also clear. These are Blockstream's own feature claims, not independent measurements of speed, reliability or coverage. Users and developers evaluating the rebuilt explorer should treat the announcement as a product baseline, then verify the interface and API against their own transaction, wallet or integration needs.
