A *ton* is a unit of weight or mass commonly used in different measurement systems. In the United States, a **short ton** equals 2,000 pounds (about 907 kilograms). In the United Kingdom and other places using the imperial system, a **long ton** equals 2,240 pounds (about 1,016 kilograms). In most other countries using the metric system, a **metric ton**, or **tonne**, equals 1,000 kilograms (about 2,204.6 pounds).
