Ross Ulbricht is an American former darknet market operator best known for creating and running the Silk Road, an online black market that operated on the dark web and facilitated the anonymous sale of illegal goods and services using Bitcoin. He was arrested in 2013 and later convicted on charges including money laundering, computer hacking, and conspiracy to traffic narcotics. Ulbricht is currently serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
