Perpetual futures are a type of futures contract that has no expiration date. Unlike traditional futures, which settle on a specific date, perpetual futures allow traders to hold positions indefinitely as long as margin requirements are met. Their prices are kept close to the underlying asset’s spot price through a funding rate mechanism, which periodically adjusts payments between traders who are long and short.
