Natural gas is a naturally occurring mixture of gaseous hydrocarbons, primarily composed of methane (CH₄), along with smaller amounts of other gases such as ethane, propane, butane, and sometimes carbon dioxide, nitrogen, or hydrogen sulfide. It is formed over millions of years from the decomposition of organic matter buried under sediment and is commonly used as a fuel for heating, electricity generation, and as a raw material in chemical production.
