A **dram** is a unit of measure that can refer to different quantities depending on the context:
- **In weight (apothecaries’ or avoirdupois system):** It is equal to 1/16 of an ounce or about 1.772 grams (avoirdupois) or 3.888 grams (apothecaries’).
- **In volume (liquid measure):** It is a small unit equal to 1/8 of a fluid ounce or about 3.7 milliliters in the U.S. system.
- **In informal usage:** It can also refer to a small drink of liquor, especially whisky in Scotland.
