Docker Engine is the core component of Docker that enables the building and running of containers. It consists of a server (a long-running daemon process), REST APIs that allow communication with the daemon, and a command-line interface (CLI) client. The Engine handles container lifecycle management, including image creation, container execution, networking, and storage, using containerization technologies such as namespaces and cgroups to isolate applications.
