A DNS leak occurs when DNS requests—queries your device sends to translate domain names (like example.com) into IP addresses—are exposed to a DNS server outside of a secure tunnel, such as a VPN or proxy connection. This can reveal your browsing activity, real location, and other identifying information to your internet service provider or other third parties, even when you believe your traffic is encrypted and anonymized.
