Bitcoin halving is an event that occurs approximately every four years (or every 210,000 blocks) in the Bitcoin network, during which the block reward given to miners for validating transactions is reduced by half. This mechanism is built into Bitcoin’s code to control inflation and gradually decrease the rate at which new bitcoins are created, ultimately capping the total supply at 21 million coins.
