Sam Altman introduces GPT-6 concept and the future AI Director at OpenAI

Sam Altman Reveals GPT-6 and “AI Director” Concept for Corporate Automation

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has shared first details about GPT-6, calling it a major leap in scientific reasoning, automation, and real-world collaboration.

GPT-6: Beyond Language and Toward Discovery

Altman emphasized that GPT-6 will go far beyond the conversational intelligence of GPT-5, marking a true shift toward “scientific partnership.” The model will not only generate answers but also design experiments, interpret data, and propose hypotheses — effectively acting as a co-author for researchers and engineers.

He stated that GPT-6 will be released in 2026, following extensive internal testing and safety validation. “GPT-5 already shows useful results,” Altman noted, “but GPT-6 will be able to regularly generate original ideas and conduct experiments with precision that matches real scientific workflows.”

The Rise of the “AI Director”

One of Altman’s most ambitious concepts is the “AI Director” — an intelligent system capable of managing entire corporate processes autonomously. The AI Director would oversee project planning, decision analysis, and resource allocation across departments, with predictive capabilities that minimize human oversight.

According to Altman, up to 85 percent of repetitive business tasks could soon be handled by such autonomous systems. This, he said, will allow humans to focus on creativity, ethics, and long-term strategy — areas where machine intuition still falls short.

AI That Replaces Its Own Creator

In a rare moment of reflection, Altman admitted that artificial intelligence could eventually make even his own position redundant. “At some point, an AI CEO might run OpenAI better than I do,” he said with a smile. “And that would be a success, not a failure.”

As the AI race accelerates, GPT-6 may become the first system to merge scientific creativity with operational management — reshaping both the lab and the boardroom.
