Figure 03 Robot Learns to Wash Dishes and Targets Mass Production

Figure AI has unveiled a major update to its humanoid robot Figure 03 — and this time, it can wash the dishes. The new iteration demonstrates rapid progress toward safe, practical home automation, combining advanced vision, tactile sensing, and natural language control.

Built from the ground up for “vision-language-action”

The robot’s control model was rebuilt entirely from scratch to integrate vision, language, and motion in a single loop. Dual high-frame-rate cameras now deliver twice the frame rate and 60% wider field of view, while latency has been reduced fourfold. Additional palm-mounted cameras enable “blind” manipulation for tasks where direct sight is blocked.

Each fingertip carries durable tactile sensors capable of detecting pressure changes down to individual grams — a precision upgrade designed to prevent slips or breakage when handling fragile items.

Safety and household readiness

The company emphasizes domestic usability and safety. Figure 03’s outer shell is covered in layered soft materials and foam inserts that reduce the risk of pinching or injury. Fabric covers are removable and washable, and several “clothing” variants exist, including protective cut-resistant suits for industrial use.

The acoustic system was re-engineered as well: a larger speaker and improved microphone placement provide clearer speech and smoother interaction in noisy environments. The robot can respond to spoken instructions, maintain dialogue, and adapt tone depending on context.

Autonomous charging and long-term operation

For continuous operation, Figure 03 recharges itself through a 2 kW wireless docking station. The station detects approach and alignment automatically, minimizing human intervention. This self-maintenance design reflects the firm’s ambition to create robots capable of 24/7 service cycles in homes, labs, and retail environments.

Toward industrial-scale deployment

Figure AI’s roadmap targets production of 100 000 units annually over the next four years. The company believes the combination of soft-shell safety, low-latency control, and human-like dexterity will make humanoid robots a standard household and commercial asset.

Pricing and launch dates have not yet been disclosed, but the firm hints that early pilot deployments are already underway in select partner facilities.

Conclusion

By giving its humanoid robot the ability to handle delicate daily chores — from dishwashing to object sorting — Figure AI showcases how far integrated perception and actuation have come. The Figure 03 stands as one of the first commercial designs explicitly built for both industrial and domestic environments, marking a tangible step toward the era of functional home robots.
