Bitcoin Loses 2025 Popularity Crown, Says Galaxy Digital Analyst
Bitcoin has lost its spot as the most popular investment of 2025 — but that may not be a bad thing, according to Galaxy Digital’s head of research, Alex Thorn.
“Attention Will Return to Bitcoin,” Says Thorn
In an interview with CNBC, Thorn explained that Bitcoin is entering a “more mature and sustainable stage” of market development. While the world’s leading cryptocurrency has ceded investor attention to other booming sectors, he believes this phase marks the start of its long-term stabilization.
“Attention always returns to Bitcoin,” he said. “It was the hottest trade at the start of the year after Trump’s victory in the U.S. election, but investors have since diversified.”
Investors Turn to New Frontiers
According to Thorn, capital has shifted toward artificial intelligence, nuclear energy, quantum computing, and even gold — areas promising rapid technological or industrial growth. “There were many other opportunities to make money this year, which slowed Bitcoin inflows,” he noted.
This rotation, however, does not imply fading confidence in Bitcoin itself. Rather, it highlights a broadening investment landscape where digital assets coexist with next-generation technologies and green-energy sectors.
A Mature Market Phase
Thorn believes that Bitcoin’s relative quiet is a sign of market maturity rather than decline. “Volatility has subsided, institutional participation remains strong, and we’re seeing infrastructure growth — these are healthy indicators,” he said.
As global monetary policy remains uncertain and technology reshapes capital flows, many analysts expect Bitcoin to re-emerge as a hedge against both inflation and over-centralization in finance. The current pause, they argue, might be exactly what the crypto market needs before its next wave of adoption.
